Cultural Genocide
Since the Iranian Revolution, the Iranian government and clergy have sought to prevent members of the Baha’i faith from practising their religion though arrests, beatings and various forms of discrimination and harassment.
Cultural or religious beliefs or practices are integral to the well-being of a community. When they are attacked as a threat to the status quo, the results can be devastating. This social crime would punish individuals for some of the most serious violations of the right to culture, which is guaranteed in article 27 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and article 12 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
